Business School Alum And Potential Donor

This was a request from the WSU Development Office trying to track down information and images on a Business School alum and potential donor, Mary Elizabeth Snapp. I was able to track her down in the Commencement program from the year she graduated - 1981. I sent the scans to the Development Office. The interaction is recorded to the right.

Hi Charisse -

Good to talk with you earlier.

And I'd love to meet with your team and my Director, Erik Nordberg, to think of partnerships we can make to further the mission of Wayne State going forward.

The digitization of The South End is a great spot to start.

In the meantime, I'm going to send you what I've found on Mary Elizabeth Snapp.

As I'd noted when we talked on the phone, we looked already in our WSU Photographs and did not find her there.

I found her in the 1981 Commencement program.

I'll be sending you the photos that I took with my phone.

They are pretty crude - so if you want better copies of anything, we can do that with professional equipment.
- Just let me know.

Also these are big enough that I'll need to send them to you in a few emails.

I also looked in:
- 1978 WSU Yearbook - she was not in there.
- 1979 WSU Yearbook - she was not in there.
- 1981 WSU Yearbook - she was not in there.

Note - we unfortunately do not hold the 1980 WSU Yearbook.

DO let me know if and how I can further help.

Sincerely,

Alison Stankrauff

Dana, Steve -- Please see below from Ailson at the Reuther Archives. Do you have anything on 1981 grad (and donor prospect) Mary Elizabeth Snapp?

If you could let Alison know either way, that would be great. Thanks!
Michelle

Hi Michelle -

This may be a long shot...

But we've been contacted by the WSU Development Office.

They're looking for photos or information on a prospective donor who attended the School of Business and graduated with a Masters in 1981 - Mary Elizabeth Snapp.

Previously we've given them a list of students...

But they're wondering if there's anything else on this individual.

We've combed through the University Photo Collection here and didn't find anything.

I'm looking in our Commencement Programs and Yearbooks.

But I'm wondering if you have anything on her at all?

Thanks In Advance,

October 5, 2017 –
Upon closer inspection of the ASpace record, the two records are labeled “SEIU”. SO – my suspicion that the two records are labor-related rather than University-related is correct.

I also messaged Alexandra accordingly:
(3:42:26 PM) Alison Stankrauff: Hi Again - Upon closer inspection of the ASpace record, the two records are labeled “SEIU”. SO – my suspicion that the two records are labor-related rather than University-related is correct.

(3:43:46 PM) Alexandra: Yes- i don’t think David Snapp has anything to do with the WSU lady
(3:43:53 PM) Alexandra: Looks like he is involved/was involved with SEIU
(3:44:12 PM) Alexandra: Which is def. labor, not WSU. sorry for not getting back to you soon!@
(3:44:53 PM) Alexandra: He is a folder title in the SEIU Executive Office: John Sweeney Records (Sweeney was a Pres of SEIU, and Pres of AFL-CIO)
(3:45:25 PM) Alison Stankrauff: Ah - Gotcha! This is all helpful! And - totally learning as I go... Thanks Lady!
(3:45:41 PM) Alexandra: Np, ASpace terminology is confusing at first and takes a while to get the hang of
(3:45:49 PM) Alexandra: not to mention the 5 zillion different collections ;)
(3:45:56 PM) Alexandra: Let me know if you need anything else and good luck on the hung
(3:46:22 PM) Alison Stankrauff: Thanks! :)

October 5, 2017 – I messaged my colleague Alexandra in our internal chat after a search in ASpace:
(3:24:44 PM) Alison Stankrauff: Hello! Sorry - But - I have a reference request on a Business School alum, and I want to make sure that I'm reading a record in ASpace correctly...
(3:25:29 PM) Alison Stankrauff: I'm searching the last name "Snapp" - and get "David Snapp (organizing), photos, 1980s-1990s".
(3:26:01 PM) Alison Stankrauff: My guess is that this has zero relation to the alum - who is Mary Elizabeth Snapp.
(3:26:30 PM) Alison Stankrauff: Especially as I'm guessing that the "organizing" bit in the record relates it to a labor-related collection?
(3:26:37 PM) Alison Stankrauff: Learning as I go!

October 5, 2017 – Phoned Charisse and left her a voicemail – saying I was going to look into this and get back to her.

Subject: University reference

Hi Alison,

I took a call from Charisse Montgomery in the Development Office (577-1162) while I was sitting on the Reading Room desk today. She is looking for photos or information on a prospective donor who attended the School of Business and graduated with a Masters in 1981 - Mary Elizabeth Snapp.

She says that Kathy already gave her a list of students, but she wondered if we had anything else. I looked through the university photo collection and did not find anything, but I wasn’t sure if there were yearbooks or something else that you could reference? Could you please give her a call back?

Thanks,
Deborah
